Essential Emergency and Critical Care Champions Workshops

Principles & Practices

The POETIC team at MUHAS runs regular ‘Champions Workshops’ in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. These are dynamic, three-day events that brings together healthcare professionals from around the world to deepen their understanding of Essential Emergency and Critical Care (EECC). Designed for invited participants, the workshop focuses on equipping clinicians with the knowledge and skills to advocate for, implement, and expand EECC in their own settings.

Over the course of the workshop, participants explore the core principles of EECC—low-cost, life-saving interventions like oxygen therapy, fluid resuscitation, and early recognition of critical illness.

Experts & Champions

Through case studies, ward-based scenarios, and in-depth discussions, attendees learn why EECC is urgently needed and how it can address global gaps in emergency and critical care.

By the end of the workshop, each participant becomes an “EECC Champion”—armed with an action plan to drive change in their hospitals, countries, or regions. The workshop also fosters a strong sense of collaboration, offering a unique opportunity to network with peers and experts from Tanzania and beyond.

This is more than just a training—it’s the start of a movement to ensure that critically ill patients everywhere receive the care they need to survive.
