In-person Training
This section is primarily directed to EECC Training Course facilitators and provides all the course materials required to run the course.
The three-day on-site EECC training course was developed in 2024-2025 as part of the collaborative programme EECC in Tanzania (EECCiT) by Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), UNICEF Tanzania, the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government, the Zanzibar Ministry of Health, and colleagues in health facilities across Tanzania, with the financial support of Global Affairs Canada through the “CanGive” initiative.
Course materials were were adapted from the 2023 EECC Network online course and reviewed by clinical and pedagogical experts from Burundi, Chile, Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Sweden, the UK, and the US, and a course pilot was conducted in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in October 2024.
This course aims to provide all cadres of health workers with the knowledge and skills to provide EECC and save the lives of their critically ill patients.

Online Training
In collaboration with the Learning Resource Centre at Stanford University, we’ve developed EECC Training. It’s accredited for all bedside providers to be able to recognize critical illness, respond rapidly, and rescue patients from life-threatening decompensation through the provision of EECC. By the end of this course, learners should be able to…
Understand what EECC IS and what EECC IS NOT
Be able to identify critical illness using vital signs and physical assessments
Provide appropriate first-step essential care to critically ill patients
Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with other care team members
The course comes with AMA PRA Category 1 Credits and a certificate.
Watch the Lecture
If you just want to learn more - rather than doing a training course - you can watch this lecture covering the general topic of Essential Emergency and Critical Care.
